Leaving Space
Leaving space gives the subject of the picture room to “move.” It implies motion and also makes the viewer think about where the subject is going. Leaving space is also used to try to give some sort of “freedom,” to the subject, like visual freedom (they are looking at something) or freedom of motion (they are doing an action). You also want to give space when they are looking at something, even if the thing they are looking at isn’t in the picture, which is an example of visual freedom. To further explain freedom of motion, it could be explained as the subject that is moving needs space. All you have to do is make sure there is open space where the subject is moving toward, or looking toward.
